Clean Water

Clean Water Projects in O'Oya, Salakahadi, Sidayodayo, Ailuluwai and Budoya

Ailuluwai community The $15,000.00 raised and sent through the MSC Mission has been a Godsend to five of my twenty Communities. To the casual or itinerant observer visiting these communities, there seems to be no shortage of water - mountains streams, rivers, subterranean springs continually maintained and replenished by regular rain. But once the rain touches the earth, the problem arised finding good, clean drinking water which has not been polluted by pigs, gods, snakes, lizards, frogs and insect larvae.

Without the sort of finance you need to sink a bore, the only other alternative is to capture rain direct from the sky and store it in fairly expensive fibre glass water tanks. With $15,000 collected by you and sent to me by Fr Meaney, I have taken photos of five of my communities where your donations have been used to obtain clean drinking water.
OOYA community O'OYA community for the past 35 years has had no clean water - except for casual, muddy pools after rains and hot springs whose water is highly salted. But now feeding off the roof of their new red church, they have a 47 Kilolitre Southern Cross Liner water tank. Thank you !

SALAKAHADI community SALAKAHADI community carried this 1000 gallon fibreglass tank in from the beach - a walk of 6 hours ! A great effort indeed.

SIDAYODAYO community SIDAYODAYO community showed their self-reliance by erecting themselves both the Parish hall and the water tank - labour cost free. the local water has a calky colour, too much calcium. But now they have good clean water through your generosity.
