Clean Water Project

Over 1,200 million people have no access to an adequate water supply. In fact by the time you have finished reading this page of print, at least one person will have died of thirst. These facts may seem so far beyond our comprehension, that it is best we put them aside as something beyond our consideration. Should we do so it will be with an uneasy conscience. We will not feel too good within ourselves. We know that at least we should ask ourselves. 'Is there anything at all I can do to help these people who are thirsty?' The following awesome facts should make us stop and reconsider our attitude towards water, and those people who unfortunately are not able to find an adequate water supply:

  • Water is essential to life.

  • Our earth is the BLUE PLANET with 75 per cent of its surface covered by water.

  • Seventy per cent of our body is made of water.

Never-the-less

  • Our 1,200 million people have an inadequate supply of water. In Papua New Guinea less than one third of the rural people have access to a proper water supply and 80 per cent of the population live in rural areas.

  • Each year over 25 million people die of diseases related to water.

  • People in developed countries spend in excess of 17 billion dollars each year on food for their pets. It would require only half this money to ensure that everyone had access to clean water.

  • Unsafe water supply and poor sanitation is responsible for 80 per cent of all diseases in the world.
